Interesting Fact(s):    Nelson would be the only naval officer, to receive the rank, of major general , on either side.  As a brigadier, in Don Carlos Buell's Army of the Ohio, Nelson's forced march, to support U.S. Grant, at Shiloh, would save the day, as Nelson's division would anchor the left flank at Pittsburg Landing.  Nelson, who was a huge man, would gain lasting fame, when he was shot to death, by US Brigadier General Jefferson C. Davis, after an argument, at the Galt House in Louisville, KY.
