Interesting Fact(s):    Lyon, was credited with saving Missouri for the Union.  Having cleared St Louis, of the Rebels, he determined to push the Confederates from southwest Missouri.  On August 10, 1861, the second major battle of the Civil War occurred near Springfield, MO - called Wilson's Creek, when Lyon brought battle with the Rebels under CS Brigadier General Ben McCullough.  Lyon would be killed in the battle, and the Union troops would get swept from the field.
